Stepping-Up to the Challenges

As we come to the end of the first week in 2018 after our Year End Break, here’s some good news to share!

2 teams from our School of Engineering successfully attained awards at the Industry-University Challenge 2017, that was held towards the end of last year. It was their first appearance at the competition, however, both teams successfully stood out among all participants, who comprised the best talents from Malaysian universities and companies.

The competition organized by CREST and Intel aimed to inspire ideas of building the city of tomorrow with Internet of Things (IoT), in which our teams invented 2 practical and innovative systems: the Flood Mitigation System and the RFID Vehicle Management System respectively. Hoy Chun Wai and Lim Wei Jie, under the supervision of Ir. Dr Alvin Yap, clinched the Second Prize, whereas Cheong Wai Leong, Ding Nick Yuen, Sam Yi Kang and Yu Zi Hao, under the supervision of Dr Lau Chee Yong, bagged the consolation prize. Both teams walked away with amazing prizes such as External Hard Disks and Chromebooks.

It was a good experience for our Engineering students, to be exposed to the world of opportunities within the IoT industry. With up-to-date industrial knowledge, we can ensure that our students remain competitive as they enter the job market in the future.
