Fun Evening with Hiragana and Origami @ APU

Japanese culture is one of the oldest cultures in the world, which originated as far back as 710 AD. Hiragana and Origami are two of Japanese culture symbols that are meaningful and unique for the Japanese community. Hiragana is a Japanese syllabary, which is also a basic component of the Japanese writing system, also a key to the Japanese language. On the other hand, Origami, which means “folding paper” in the Japanese language, refers to the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, which techniques can be applied to create different sculptures and designs using a piece of paper.

On the 18th of April 2014, APU Japanese Club introduced these two symbols to the APU community by organizing the “Fun Evening with Hiragana and Origami” event. External facilitators were invited to conduct the workshop. Around 50 students attended the session, where they had fun learning how to write Japanese characters and symbols, as well as enjoyed folding their own Origami for their personal collections. Let us await more events from the APU Japanese Club, to bring us on a further journey to explore the Japanese culture further!
