APU’s SoMAD Students Proved Their Mettle In Film Making At The International Film Festival

A hat-trick of awards and joy for Himavarthiniy Easwaran and Teoh Mei Yen as they came out tops amongst more than 83 competitors including from the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Cambodia. Both the School of Media, Arts and Design (SoMAD) students secured 3 prestigious awards (among 7 categories of awards) at the SDGFilmfest 2021 – the best performance amongst all participants!

First established by De Montfort University, Leicester, UK & the Jakarta campus of the London School of Public Relations (LSPR) in 2018, and funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund and LSPR, the SDGFilmfest 2021 was held virtually on June 25, 2021.

Himavarthiniy’s film project Saabham secured two accolades - the Best Overall Film which brought her a cash award of £400 as well as an additional  £150 for the AUPP Dramatization or Re-enactment Award. These achievements are indeed icing on the cake for Hima, as she had recently qualified herself as a Top 7 filmmaker under the category of First Time Filmmaker Award at the 4th Dimension International Film Festival 2021, Bali, Indonesia. Himavarthiniy has just graduated with a BSc (Hons) Digital Film & 3D Animation programme.

The third accolade at the SDGFilmfest 2021 was achieved by Teoh Mei Yen, a Year-2 student of the BA (Hons) Visual Effects. Her film project Hemp is Better than Cotton won the judges’ hearts and secured the Award for Best Production Value with a cash reward of £200.
