Climate Change & Sustainable Environment Project

APU School of Business and ISUC Join Forces to Cultivate Environmental Sustainability

Global climate change has had a clear and measurable impact on the environment, glaciers are melting resulting in rising sea levels, weather patterns are becoming increasingly unpredictable and temperatures across the globe are noticeably rising; largely due to the greenhouse gases produced by excessive farming, agricultural and industrial activities.

The prolonged and negative impact of climate change has prompted the United Nations (UN) to establish the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which contains 17 goals and attempts to mitigate the socio-economic challenges in today’s world. These goals not only tackle climate change, they collectively attempt to address a range of societal issues and include poverty, health, inequality, affordable energy, and sustainable communities.

In light of this issue, the School of Business (SoB) has taken the initiative to organise certain events in collaboration with APU's Integrated Sustainability & Urban Creativity Centre (ISUC) with the aim to achieve at least 2 of these goals, which are:

  • Sustainable Development Goal number 13, Climate Action
  • Sustainable Development Goal number 15, Life on Land

With the vision to deliver not only academic excellence but goes far beyond striving to reduce environmental burden; the SoB and ISUC have been working relentlessly to bring a positive impact to the community by leveraging various resources and activities to achieve this goal which is centred around protecting the environment together with our students:

Activities organised: -

1. Fundraising for Greenpeace Malaysia
Together with students from the APU nature’s musketeers, they are collaborating with Greenpeace Malaysia to make the world a greener place by organising this fundraising initiative. 100% of the earnings received will go directly to Greenpeace Malaysia to save the forest and combat climate change.

If you would like to donate to create a better, more sustainable world; you can make your contribution at the link below:

2. Volunteer Programme
The school also intends to take our students to plant trees with Greenpeace Malaysia and clean beaches with MY Clean Beach once the situation has relaxed and social activities can resume. This volunteering programme has already attracted more than 50 students to participate.

3. Forex and Investment Workshop – [14th August 2021]
This workshop is designed to educate students of all backgrounds on Forex and Investment to better understand how the financial market works. All proceeds raised from the workshop will be donated to Greenpeace Malaysia.

4. Escape Room Competition – [21st August 2021]
Students will be learning about the importance of protecting the environment while having fun participating in this competition.

5. Instagram Reel Competition – [18th to 28th August 2021]
This Instagram Reel competition encourages students to create a short video to raise awareness of the need to preserve and protect the environment.

Such an outstanding effort done by the SoB and the ISUC to encourage and promote a more sustainable environment for the next generations to come. As the saying goes ‘Together We Can Achieve More’. Kudos to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jason James Turner and Ms. Abbhirami Sivarajan for being the advisors of these events and making this possible!
