APU’s Five Esports Club Members Crowne Champions At The UNITEN Valorant Championship 2022

Team DzN Esports comprising members Thian Shan You, Goh Shao Rui, Hee Zi Qi, Lee Pot Link and Tan Hoong Yuan, were crowned Champion at the UNITEN Valorant Championship 2022.

Led by Thian Shan You, and mentored by APU Esports Club (APUESC) lecturer-advisor, Mr Matthew Wee Ann Poh, the team defeated 7 others and walked away with a cash prize of RM1,000.

Organised by Universiti Tenaga Nasional’s Esports Club, the final of the tournament was held on 23rd July 2022 at the  Orange Esports Café, Quill City Mall Kuala Lumpur, which saw participants competing with each other from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The tournament was played in a Double Elimination format – which means that there was an Upper and Losers bracket. If a team loses in the winner bracket, they will still have a chance to play in the finals by completely winning the lower bracket.

The qualifier and semi-final matches were played in a Best-of-1 (BO1) format and for Finals it was played in a Best-of-3 (BO3) format. The total prize pool for the event was RM1,800 – Champion RM1000, Second Place RM500 and Third Place RM300.

Even though APU’s team started with a match lost, with determination, the team managed to secure the win after winning 2 matches against Taylor’s Esports Club, making them the Champion of the event.

With this achievement and experiences accumulated in the past, all five members of DzN Esports made it to the Top-32 for Valorant Champions Tour Malaysia & Singapore Open Qualifiers as their highest achievement in the Esports journey.
