A Fusion of Cultures at APU’s Mauritian Independence Day Celebrations

In conjunction with the Mauritian Independence Day which falls on the 12th of March, the Mauritian Community of Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) hosted a night of celebrations at APU’s campus in Bukit Jalil recently. More than 250 students and staff were part of the audience that witnessed the beauty of Mauritian culture. The night reached its climax as the Mauritian students performed the Sega dance – a popular traditional dance of Mauritius that is filled with nostalgia and heritage whilst celebrating the human desire for joy and happiness.

A celebratory global and multi-cultural mood prevailed during the night where other international students of different cultural backgrounds and nationalities such as from Indonesia, Kazakhstan, India and Pakistan also showcased traditional dances as well as modern hip-hop dances.

Spectacular performances such as the Diabolo performance by the Chinese Language & Cultural Society (CLCS) and the Bollywood dance by the Indian Cultural Youth Society (ICYS) rounded up a night of fun and exciting entertainment.
