APU Hospitality and Tourism Students Explore Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Global Hospitality and Tourism (SoGHT) students visited Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park by IHG, learning about its operations, history, and internships, and admiring the hotel’s unique design, friendly staff, and facilities while gaining valuable insights into boutique hotel management.

Recently, 21 students from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Global Hospitality and Tourism (SoGHT) embarked on an exciting visit to the Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park by IHG

Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park by IHG is a boutique 5-star hotel located in Kuala Lumpur’s city centre near Bukit Nanas and KL Forest Eco Park. 

The hotel featured modern, design-led rooms inspired by the surrounding neighbourhood and Malaysian culture, offering guests a blend of urban city life and natural greenery. 

It provided facilities such as a rooftop pool, fitness centre, restaurants, and event spaces, while being close to major attractions like KL Tower and Petronas Twin Towers.

The group was accompanied by SoGHT Academic Leader, Mr Kumaresu Murugasu @ Murugesi, and Senior Lecturer Mr Shazeel Ali Sardar Ali, Mr Fan Wai Mun and Ms Siti Fariza Muhamad Amin.

The students were warmly welcomed by the hotel’s Assistant Human Resource Manager, Mr Rayner Shanker, who delivered an insightful briefing on Hotel Indigo, detailing its background, history, and the various internship opportunities available. 

Following the introduction, the group enjoyed a guided tour of the hotel’s facilities, including guest rooms and other key operational areas.

At the conclusion of the visit, General Manager, Mr Antonio Zubiaga shared his experiences in the hospitality industry and encouraged the students to pursue their studies with dedication and aim for excellence in their future careers.

A K M Sajidul Islam highlighted the hotel’s distinctive charm, noting that its architecture beautifully blended modern aesthetics with local culture and greenery, creating an open and tranquil atmosphere.

“Although it was smaller than typical five-star hotels, its facilities, including a gym and swimming pool, were well maintained, though I missed a spa. The staff were friendly and professional, which enhanced the overall experience.

“The hotel’s luxurious yet approachable ambiance made it both comfortable and elegant. Learning that Hotel Indigo is an international chain has inspired me to explore other locations in the future. This tour gave me valuable insights into hotel operations and hospitality management.”

Yelijiang Mamuerbieke also praised the hotel’s modern and stylish design, perfectly integrated with Malaysian local culture and natural surroundings.

“The views of the forest and city skyline were breathtaking. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the facilities were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. 

“Overall, it was a very interesting and enjoyable experience, and I learned a great deal about hotel operations and service quality.”

For Momo Nakano, it was a first-time experience visiting a hotel as a non-customer.

“I was fascinated to see how the hotel operates and how much care goes into maintaining its concept. The design, atmosphere, and overall vibe were perfectly aligned. 

“Even though it is a luxury hotel, it did not feel intimidating or overly formal; instead, it was welcoming and approachable. I had not known much about Hotel Indigo before, but now I am keen to visit other Indigo hotels worldwide.”

Thin Yu Aye was impressed by the hotel’s unique design and strong local identity.

“We learned so much about hotel operations from the professional staff. This visit gave us a clearer understanding of real-world hospitality management and inspired us as future professionals.”

Sara Tasnim Shikder commented on the hotel’s boutique charm, noting that although it was not large, it was well-organised and beautifully designed, with touches of nature throughout the interior.

“Most essential services were available, except for a spa. The swimming pool was particularly attractive, and overall, it offered a warm and pleasant boutique hotel experience.”

Chiho Hiraoka concluded that the visit provided an invaluable behind-the-scenes perspective.

“I was impressed by the hotel’s unique design concept. Being smaller than a typical five-star hotel, it felt more intimate, yet welcoming, with a lovely scent upon entry. 

“Essential facilities such as a gym and swimming pool were thoughtfully provided, making it a memorable experience.”

The visit to Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park by IHG proved to be an enriching and inspiring experience for all students, providing them with a deeper understanding of boutique hotel operations and the hospitality industry.
