Recently, the School of Computing (SoC) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), in collaboration with Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital and Miss Malaysia India Care Association (MMICARE), organised a workshop titled “AI Unlocked: The Ultimate Professional and Entrepreneurial Toolkit.”

Led by Ts T Tulasi Sathyabama Appalasamy (Senior Lecturer, SoC at APU) and Dr Mohanaapriya Sina Raja (Part Time Lecturer, School of Marketing and Management at APU), the workshop designed to equip participants (APU students and staff, alongside working professionals) with practical artificial intelligence (AI) competencies for professional growth, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.

The workshop was conducted by Mr Mugilan Chitambram, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TechLab Ecommerce Marketing; a professional with nearly two decades of experience in AI, digital marketing, and digital transformation.

Drawing from his extensive industry experience, Mr Mugilan shared valuable insights into how AI is transforming industries, reshaping career opportunities, and enabling organisations to enhance productivity and innovation. 

Building Confidence in AI Adoption

Mr Mugilan guided participants through a structured learning journey to understand how AI can be applied effectively in academic, professional, and entrepreneurial settings.

Rather than viewing AI as a simple conversational tool, participants learned how to leverage AI as an intelligent partner to support problem-solving, enhance decision-making, and improve workplace productivity.

Throughout the workshop, participants gained practical knowledge through a highly interactive learning approach that combined conceptual presentations, live AI tool demonstrations, and collaborative discussions covering:

1. Understanding AI’s impact on careers and the future of work by exploring how industries are adopting AI to enhance efficiency, innovation, and decision-making, while gaining insights into emerging opportunities in the digital landscape.
2. Developing effective AI interaction skills by learning how to create more accurate, reliable, and meaningful AI-generated responses through effective prompt development techniques.
3. Applying AI for professional development and learning by using AI-powered coaching tools to analyse job descriptions, practise interview scenarios, and support research.
4. Exploring AI-powered automation and innovation by understanding how autonomous AI agents can streamline professional tasks, support entrepreneurial workflows, and enhance productivity across different industries.
5. Building confidence in AI adoption by engaging in hands-on prompt development exercises, group challenges, and practical problem-solving activities to apply AI tools effectively in academic, professional, and business settings.
    

Together, the activities and discussions highlighted the evolving role of AI in shaping the future of work, encouraging participants to embrace lifelong learning, cultivate essential digital skills, and maximise opportunities through the effective application of AI across academic, professional, and entrepreneurial settings. 

Unlocking future Opportunities through AI Skills

Through the workshop, participants gained practical exposure to AI tools and applications, enabling them to develop greater confidence in integrating AI into their workflows, enhancing productivity, strengthening problem-solving abilities, and exploring innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Ultimately, by applying AI effectively, participants are better prepared to identify new possibilities and create meaningful impact in an increasingly AI-driven future.
