Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has been recognised as the Red Hat Academy of the Year 2025 for the Rest of Asia Pacific, in recognition of its outstanding efforts in integrating Red Hat technologies into its curriculum and creating impactful learning opportunities for students.

The achievement also reflects the dedication of Ts Dr Manimegalai Rajenderan (Senior Lecturer and Advisor of APU Red Hat Academy Club, School of Technology at APU) and Mr Shahab Alizadeh (Senior Lecturer and Advisor of APU Red Hat Academy Club, School of Technology at APU), whose efforts have been instrumental in cultivating APU’s Red Hat Academy ecosystem, guiding students in developing technical expertise and leadership capabilities through workshops, certifications, technical activities, and industry engagement initiatives.

Building a Strong Open Source learning Ecosystem

APU’s collaboration with Red Hat Malaysia has continued to grow through a series of initiatives aimed at bridging academic learning with industry practices and strengthening students’ exposure to enterprise open-source technologies.

The partnership was formalised on 5th September 2023, followed by impactful initiatives including the appointment of Red Hat Academy Ambassadors under the Student Ambassador programme, an industrial visit to Red Hat Malaysia, and an employment talk conducted by Red Hat professionals.

A key milestone in this collaboration was the official launch of the Red Hat Academy Lab at APU on 19th November 2024.

Complementing the lab’s role in fostering technical development, APU Red Hat Academy Club, which was established and registered in June 2024, serves as a platform for students to explore open-source technologies, collaborate on technical projects, and strengthen their understanding of enterprise solutions.

Together, these initiatives have contributed towards establishing APU as one of the most active Red Hat Academy institutions in the rest of the Asia Pacific region, while reinforcing the university’s commitment to nurturing future proof professionals through industry-aligned learning opportunities.

The recognition marks a significant milestone in APU’s commitment towards advancing open-source education and strengthening industry-aligned learning opportunities, which, according to Assoc Prof Dr Thang Ka Fei (Senior Head, School of Technology at APU), reflects the university’s continuous efforts in equipping students with skills and industry-relevant knowledge to thrive in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.

He emphasised that the recognition also reinforces APU’s commitment to preparing students with the practical expertise and industry exposure needed to succeed in the future workforce.
