Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) continues to cultivate a strong culture of volunteerism and community engagement through initiatives led by APU Community Engagement (ACE), providing students with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society, while fostering empathy, social responsibility, and personal growth beyond the classroom.
Across multiple outreach activities, under the guidance of Ms Abbhirami Sivarajan (Lecturer and Advisor of ACE, School of Business at APU), student volunteers dedicated their time and effort towards supporting communities in need, improving living conditions, and contributing to meaningful social causes that continue to create a positive impact on both people and society.
Supporting Communities through Care and Compassion

Two impactful community outreach initiatives were carried out by APU student volunteers, each focused on supporting local communities through hands-on assistance and meaningful engagement on 18th April 2026.
One team visited Rumah Kasih Charity Home, Kuala Lumpur, where student volunteers worked together to improve the living environment for the elderly residents.

Their activities included spring cleaning, repainting sections of the home, and installing new carpet flooring to create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming space.

In addition to these improvements, the student volunteers also sponsored lunch, distributed food items and snacks to the residents, and spent time interacting with them, bringing companionship and warmth to the home.

On the same day, another group of APU student volunteers collaborated with HOPE worldwide Malaysia in its monthly grocery distribution programme for B40 households.

The student volunteers assisted in unloading, sorting, and organising essential food supplies, including vegetables, rice packs, and dry food items, which benefited approximately 200 families.
Their contributions helped ensure a smooth and efficient distribution process, while supporting food security efforts for communities in need.
Extending support through Animal Welfare initiatives

Continuing their spirit of volunteerism and community engagement, APU student volunteers took part in an ongoing pet care programme organised in collaboration with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) on 25th April 2026.

Throughout the programme, student volunteers assisted with various pet care activities, while learning more about the responsibilities involved in animal rescue, shelter management, and welfare support.
Beyond providing practical assistance, the initiative also encouraged students to develop empathy, compassion, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the importance of caring for vulnerable animals within the community.
In addition to volunteering their time and effort, ACE also extended financial support to several animal welfare organisations to assist with shelter operations, animal care, and rescue efforts:
- RM1,000 contributed to My Pets Haven
- RM2,000 contributed to Furrykids Safehaven
- RM1,500 contributed to reform Animal Welfare Act (AWA) initiatives
Building a Culture of meaningful engagement
ACE’s initiatives represent a transformative series of volunteer-driven activities, uniting student volunteers to serve communities in need through outreach work, food aid distribution, and animal welfare support, which, according to Ms Abbhirami, highlighted how such experiences go beyond task completion to create lasting personal impact, shaping students into more grounded and socially aware individuals.
“Beyond contributing to communities in need, these experiences also provide students with opportunities to develop empathy, leadership, and social awareness; values that remain essential in shaping future graduates who are not only academically capable, but also deeply committed to making a positive difference in society.”
