Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) transformed into a vibrant celebration of heritage, history, and national pride, as APU’s Indonesian Student Society (AUISS) hosted Tales of Archipelago (ToA) 2025 in commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day on 29th November 2025 (Indonesia celebrates its Independence Day on 17th August, marking this year as the 80th anniversary of its liberation from Dutch colonial rule), carrying the theme “Timeless Nusantara; The Spirit of Nusantara: A journey through Time and Culture.”
The theme highlights Indonesia’s historical journey and cultural transformation from the pre-independence era to its present-day achievements, encouraging Indonesian students to reflect on their roots and responsibilities as cultural ambassadors, while offering international students meaningful insight into Indonesia’s resilience, diversity, and national identity.
The event was guided by Ms Lyeah Tan Zhao Chin, Senior Executive (International Student Services & Marketing) at APU and Advisor of AUISS for many years since 2017.
Under her continued guidance, the event has consistently upheld a strong vision, honouring Indonesia’s cultural legacy, while empowering student leadership, promoting intercultural understanding, and strengthening community engagement within APU.
Heritage through Performance and Play

At the heart of the event, the theatrical musical “Timeless Nusantara” traced the journey of a young Indonesian student abroad grappling with his cultural identity, as the mystical “Timekeeper” guided him through key moments in the nation’s history, seamlessly weaving drama, music, dance, and visual storytelling into a powerful celebration of heritage and national pride.
Beyond the musical, the event featured a flag hoisting ceremony, paskib performances, traditional and contemporary dances, fashion shows, poetry readings, traditional games, and lively after-party performances.
The event also supports student entrepreneurship through the sale of traditional food, beverages, and handcrafted merchandise, while offering international students a deeper appreciation of Indonesia’s cultural legacy.

Traditional Indonesian games added an interactive element that not only encouraged lively participation, but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and shared enjoyment among all attendees.

The atmosphere was further energised by an upbeat after-party that brought attendees together in a lively celebration of music and camaraderie.
A Celebration to remember

ToA 2025 concluded with a vibrant celebration of Indonesia’s cultural heritage, leaving attendees inspired by its unity, pride, and diversity.
The event highlighted the enduring spirit of Nusantara; timeless and resilient, while exemplifying APU’s dedication to experiential learning, multicultural engagement, and the celebration of global traditions.

The success and scale of ToA 2025 were made possible through the generous support of its sponsors, to which AUISS extends heartfelt appreciation to:
