This strategic collaboration between Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of enterprise open source solutions, and APU, a Higher Education Institution with a Premier Digital Tech University status awarded by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering technological innovation and preparing students for careers in an ever-evolving technology landscape.

The MoU outlines the key objectives of this collaboration, which include: Curriculum Benchmarking and Endorsement; Internship Opportunities; Webinars, Talks, and Events; Certification Initiatives, and additional collaborative initiatives.

In collaboration with Red Hat, APU will ensure the relevancy of selected Computing Degree programmes by benchmarking their curriculum against skills and competencies both organisations see as needed in the technology industry. The partnership will promote internship opportunities for APU students within Red Hat, offering them valuable industry experience.

Both parties will collaborate to organise webinars, talks, and events that raise awareness about Red Hat's enterprise open source solutions across key areas such as DevOps, Cloud Computing, Automated Testing, Cyber Security, and Application Development.

Red Hat and APU will also work together on certification initiatives, benefiting both students and academic staff, fostering skill development and industry recognition. In addition, the MoU paves the way for additional collaborative initiatives, ensuring that the partnership remains dynamic and responsive to evolving needs.

Looking forward to the working ties established, APU VC Prof. Ho remarked, “Through the strategic collaboration between Red Hat and APU, we embark on a journey to shape the future of tech education. This collaboration not only bridges the gap between academia and industry but also ignites a beacon of innovation, guiding students towards success in the ever-evolving tech landscape. As we benchmark curricula, provide internships, and host insightful events, we pave the path for students to thrive and for technology to flourish."

Concurred, Tammy Tan added, “Malaysia has set ambitious goals to establish itself as a digital hub in the ASEAN region. To drive digital competitiveness, we are taking the initiative to collaborate with APU in accelerating open source education. This collaboration could have a multiplier effect on knowledge-sharing and solving real-world problems. The newly established collaboration aims to foster a culture of learning and growth, providing opportunities for individuals to acquire in-demand digital skills. This, in turn, will contribute to the country’s digital transformation.”

In sum, the strategic partnership between Red Hat Malaysia and APU is a testament to the power of collaboration, education, and innovation in shaping the future of technology education and fostering the growth of individuals and industries alike.
