APU Team 1 has won 2nd Runner-up at the MonsoonSIM Enterprise Resource Management Competition (MERMC) 2023, which was held at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) on 23rd September 2023.

The team of Khoo Boon Xhuan, Lim Suet Qi, Ching Siow Xuan, Saw Zi He and Chin Thean Soo will now compete in the MonsoonSim International Competition at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)’s Kampar Campus in Perak at the end of this year.

MERMC is an annual inter-varsity competition to promote experiential learning through an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) game platform, encourage graduating students to embrace business process learning, incubate future ERP talents, and expose the Y generation to education through gamification.

APU Team 1 demonstrated the ability to use the system developed by the MonsoonSim programme in the MERMC 2023 final, taking into account all parameters like as gross profit, space utilisation, machine utilisation, market share, retail share, wholesale share, sales e-commerce, staff turnover, and production.

The judges were delighted by the team’s complete and original approach, which comprised a thorough market study, marketing strategy, and financial plan.

“This award means a great deal to us and to APU. It demonstrates that our hard work and dedication paid off.

“Through this national competition, we learned how to run a business, how to manage an enterprise with a large scale of business activities, enterprise resource planning and management skills, and how to control cash flow in order to avoid bankruptcy.

“Now we have a greater grasp of accounting information systems, business cycles, and, most importantly, how to analyse financial reports and identify problems from financial statements,” said Team 1 leader, Boon Xhuan.

They are thrilled to be representing Malaysia at the MonsoonSim International Competition, where they will compete against the best teams from across the world.

Boon Xhuan added that they will keep practising regularly to improve in all aspects as they prepare for the MonsoonSim International Competition from 30th November to 3rd December 2023.

Mr. Suresh Kumar of the School of Accounting and Finance (SoAF), assisted by Dr. Morakinyo Dada of the School of Marketing and Management (SoMM), mentored Team 1, which received a Bronze Medal, a participation certificate, and an RM500 cash prize, as well as advancement to the MonsoonSim International Competition.

Despite finishing third, Mr. Suresh and Dr. Morakinyo, Team 1’s mentors, are tremendously proud of the APU team’s accomplishments.

“They worked hard and demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of business and economics.

“We are confident that they will do well for Malaysia at the MonsoonSim International Competition,” said Mr. Suresh.
