APU’s appointment as Cyberview’s ESG Strategic Partner opens new pathways for students, academics and industry leaders to co-create technology-driven sustainability solutions for a smarter, greener and future-ready Cyberjaya.
Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has strengthened its commitment to sustainability and smart city development through a strategic collaboration with Cyberview Sdn Bhd, following APU’s appointment as Cyberview’s ESG Strategic Partner.
Cyberview Sdn Bhd is a government-owned company under the Ministry of Finance, mandated to spearhead the development of Cyberjaya into Malaysia’s primary Global Tech Hub. The partnership marks an important step in aligning academic expertise, student innovation and industry leadership to advance Cyberjaya as a model smart and sustainable city.

The Sustainability Pledge of Commitment between both parties was signed on 1 April 2026 in conjunction with the Cyberjaya Women’s Network International Women’s Day Bean Bag Session, held at a commercial hotel in Cyberjaya.
Representing APU were Prof Ir EUR ING Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam, Chief Innovation, Enterprise & Sustainability Officer; Ms Harjinder Kaur, Senior Lecturer and Industry Advisory Panel Coordinator at the School of Marketing & Management; and Ms T. Tulasi Appalasamy, Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing.
Cyberview was represented by its sustainability leadership team, led by Mr Kamarul Ariffin Bin Abdul Samad, Chief Executive Officer, together with Ms Nurul Diana Intan Zafirah Ishak, Ms Farah Wahida Jamaludin and Ms Nur Ain Syuhaida Salleh.
Advancing Cyberjaya Through ESG Action
The pledge collaboration focuses on joint programmes, knowledge sharing and meaningful sustainability actions that support Cyberjaya’s continued development. It also reflects a shared ambition to connect academic knowledge with real-world application, while equipping students with industry-relevant sustainability competencies.
The formalisation of the ESG Strategic Partnership was made possible through the efforts of Ms Harjinder Kaur, who played a key role in bringing the collaboration forward. It represents a strong alignment between academia and industry, aimed at driving sustainable practices across Cyberjaya and fostering ESG-focused innovation.
Reflecting on the significance of the pledge, Prof Vinesh said, “The APU–Cyberview collaboration stands as a testament to the power of strategic academia-industry partnerships in creating meaningful impact. Through active student engagement and initiatives that foster technology-driven innovation, the collaboration will generate forward-thinking ideas that support Cyberjaya’s transformation into a greener, smarter, and more sustainable city.”
Empowering Students as Green City Innovators
Through this partnership, APU will contribute to Cyberjaya’s transformation by encouraging student-driven innovation and practical solutions that address real-world sustainability challenges.
Students will gain opportunities to develop ESG-focused solutions through sustainability hackathons, projects and experiential learning activities. These may include smart energy systems, waste reduction applications and green mobility initiatives that support sustainable urban living.
Beyond technical solutions, the collaboration cultivates an entrepreneurial mindset, encouraging students to explore start-up ideas centred on green technology, smart cities and social innovation. Such exposure enables students to see sustainability not only as a classroom concept but as an area where their creativity and skills can create a tangible impact.
As part of this shared commitment, Cyberview Sdn Bhd has served as the main sponsor of the APU Sustainability Hackathon 2026, which took place on 25 April 2026 at APU’s campus. The hackathon provided a platform for students to propose practical ideas that support Cyberjaya’s green city aspirations.
Co-Creating Knowledge for a Sustainable Future
APU also promotes industry engagement and knowledge transfer through guest lectures, industry talks, site visits and collaborative workshops that connect academic learning with Cyberview’s real-world challenges.
“Joint ESG programmes provide opportunities for students, academics, and industry stakeholders to co-create innovative solutions, while continuous knowledge-sharing platforms facilitate the exchange of best practices, case studies, and emerging innovations. Together, these initiatives strengthen the link between academia and industry, driving sustainable development and innovation in Cyberjaya,” explained Ms Harjinder, the project liaison on behalf of APU.
“APU would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to Cyberview Sdn Bhd for their trust, collaboration, and visionary leadership in advancing sustainability initiatives,” she remarked.
The APU–Cyberview commitment has strengthened the bridge between academia and industry while inspiring a shared journey towards building a greener, more resilient and future-ready Cyberjaya.
