ASIGWISE Members Explore the Frontlines of Cyber Security at LGMS Berhad.

APU’s ASIGWISE led an industry visit to LGMS Berhad. to provide students with firsthand exposure to cyber security operations and professional standards; consequently, the technical demos, tours, and career talks successfully bridged the gap between academic theory and real-world practice.

On 30 March 2026, the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) Special Interest Group of Women in Security (ASIGWISE) embarked on an immersive industry visit to LGMS Berhad., one of Malaysia’s leading cyber security firms. 

The excursion offered students and lecturers a rare glimpse into the high-stakes world of digital defence, effectively turning theoretical classroom concepts into tangible professional insights.

The day commenced with a comprehensive introduction to the operations at LGMS, which was swiftly followed by a series of high-impact technical sessions. 

Participants were treated to live demonstrations that showcased real-world cyber security practices, peeling back the curtain on how professionals detect and mitigate sophisticated threats in real-time. 

Beyond the technicalities, the session transitioned into an essential HR career talk that focused on the evolving job market. 

This segment highlighted the specific competencies and certifications required to thrive in a competitive landscape, while a guided facility tour allowed students to observe the inner workings of a professional security operations environment.

Assistant Professor Ts Dr Vinesha Selvarajah, the Founder of ASIGWISE, emphasised that the primary objective was to bridge the divide between academic theory and industry reality. 

She explained that through this visit, ASIGWISE sought to provide students with valuable exposure to a professional working environment, allowing them to better understand current industry standards, expectations, and career pathways. 

ASIGWISE Advisor, Ms Zaireeda Mohd. Fauzee highlighted that the visit was designed to enhance students’ awareness of cyber security practices while inspiring them to develop the essential technical and soft skills required in the field. 

ASIGWISE members also accompanied by School of Technology (SoT) Lecturers, Mr Mohd. Hanis Jenalis, Ms Rizawati Rohizan, and Mr Darveen Selvarajah.

The impact of the visit was best captured by the students themselves, who left the LGMS headquarters with renewed career ambitions.


Data Informatics student Sugeetha Kesava Pillai shared that the experience provided valuable insight into how cyber security concepts are applied in real-world scenarios, particularly in managing security threats, which motivated her to pursue a deeper interest in ethical hacking. 

Cloud Engineering student Vergio Stevencen remarked that it was a great opportunity that offered a new perspective, noting that despite ASIGWISE being a women’s empowerment group, the welcoming atmosphere extended to everyone. 

Cyber Security student Ng Pui Xin concluded that the trip was incredibly well-organised and provided clear insights into what employers seek in potential candidates.

The visit concluded as a resounding success, fostering a sense of empowerment and clarity for the next generation of cyber professionals. 

By facilitating direct engagement with industry, ASIGWISE ensured that students gained the networking opportunities and confidence necessary for their future careers.
