The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Global Hospitality and Tourism (SoGHT) organised an educational exploration trip to Bangi Resort Hotel and the golf facilities at Bangi Golf Resort, providing students with valuable industry exposure beyond the classroom.

Bangi Resort Hotel and Bangi Golf Resort are essentially part of the same integrated resort development in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.

The visit was coordinated by SoGHT Senior Lecturer, Mr Shazeel Ali Sandar Ali, and led by Dr Munieleswar Raju, together with 19 students from the school.

Designed to bridge academic learning with industry practice, the trip aimed to expose students to the operational aspects of both hospitality and golf resort management while introducing potential internship opportunities within the organisation.

Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Ms Ida Rahayu, Group Human Resource Manager, who provided an informative introduction to the resort and its facilities.

Students were then taken to the golf course, where they gained insights into the operations behind one of the region’s leading golfing destinations.

The briefing covered various aspects of golf course management, including course maintenance, golfing equipment, golf clubs, and the importance of adhering to international golfing standards.

The session offered students a deeper appreciation of golf tourism and its growing significance within the hospitality and leisure industry.

The learning experience continued at the driving range, where Mr Mohammad Naqib, Junior Golf Operation Executive, conducted a practical demonstration on the fundamentals of golf.

The hands-on session allowed them to experience golf operations first-hand while gaining a better understanding of the management and customer service elements involved in recreational and leisure tourism.

Following the golf activities, the group proceeded to Bangi Resort Hotel, where they were welcomed by Ms Moganes, Senior Human Resource Executive.

She provided an insightful overview of the hotel’s daily operations, departmental functions, and service standards that underpin successful hospitality management.

Students were subsequently taken on a guided tour of the property, visiting several key operational areas to observe how different departments worked together to deliver a seamless guest experience.

A highlight of the visit was the internship briefing, during which students were introduced to the industrial training opportunities available at the hotel.

The session offered valuable insights into career pathways within the hospitality sector, industry expectations, and the professional competencies required of future hospitality graduates.

The trip proved to be a highly enriching experience. By combining practical demonstrations, operational briefings, and direct interaction with industry professionals, the visit enhanced students’ understanding of hospitality and tourism operations in a real-world setting.

More importantly, it reinforced the connection between classroom knowledge and professional practice, equipping students with greater confidence and industry awareness as they prepare for their future careers.
